Google Transit

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Checkout the Google Transit. It’s great. See what google blog says about Google Transit.

It’s a great service to plan for your transit within the city with bus routes and visual map of your rout. It even calculates the timing for the transit and how much you’d have to walk to/from your rout. Wish something of this sort is available within our metropolis.

The Impact of Social Networking on Society

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

The latest edition of New Scientist has a series of features on social networking. These include an analysis of the impact on our social attitudes by Sherry Turkle, a feature on the possible privacy implications of using sites like MySpace and Friendster, and a short science fiction piece by Bruce Sterling. It’s certainly interesting that so many people post very revealing stuff about themselves on these sites.

PKBlogs workaround and broken Archive links

Thursday, June 29th, 2006
  • You happen to be in Pakistan
  • Authorities (nonsense) has not forgotten to visit their SANE state and the Blogger ban is still on
  • Using http://pkblogs.com/your-blog-name workaround to access your blog
  • Your blog archive links takes you places (not the ones that you want them to)

If all of the above is stays valid for you, and you anwser ‘Yes‘ to all of them, read on, got a solution for you.

To fix the archive links on your Blogger hosted blog (accessed via pkblog workaround), we’re going to add a line (HTML Code) of code in your blog template code.

Follow the steps:

  1. Login to your Blogger blog account (blogger.com)
  2. Go to ‘Template’ section to open your template code.
  3. Before proceeding to the next step, it’s always good to back your stuff up :) save the template code just in case you do somethin wrong (ya, my proposed code and steps are perfect, so if anything goes wrong, that’s you!)
  4. Now you can go to the next step :p
  5. Find the tag (start from top, you’ll find it in the beginning)
  6. Put the following code (Note!! If you can not see the HTML Code below, download text file for instructions and code)
  7. Save your template
  8. Publish your blog (entire blog, not just index page)
  9. Well, check the archive links if they’re taking you to where they should proceed to next step, else go to step to and start over!
  10. That’s it! We’re done! hurray…

Say thanks to me and forward this chain blog entry to 2500 friends otherwise something bad is gonna happen at exactly 1325 hrs

Accessing Banned Blogger Blogs

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

As you know (if not, you will: follow the lead) access to blogger blogs are banned in Pakistan. Well, I know there are many ways accessing these banned blogs but for Mozilla Firefox users, here’s a nice bookmark keyword feature which will facilitate the access to these banned blogs.

  1. Open Bookmark Manager (Click Bookmarks> Manage Bookmarks… from Firefox command menu)
  2. Create a new Bookmark by clicking on New Bookmark… (the first command button on top)
  3. Fill in(copy, paste) the following information in the input dialog box:
    • Name
      Anonymous
    • Location
      http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/%s
    • Keyword
      anon
    • Description
Type “anon ” in the location bar to access blocked blogspot (Blogger Blogs)
  4. Click Ok to save the changes
  5. Quick Bookmark Manager

Now you’re ready to access the banned blogs. All you have to do is (as stated in the description) just type in the address bar of your Firefox browser, “anon ” (replace the with the banned blog web address) and hit enter. You will be able to browse the banned blog.

So there we are, having robots breaking laws of robotics and pushing the technology at the brink of distruction (even further)…

THE US Army is deploying armed robots in Iraq that are capable of breaking Asmov’s first law that they should not harm a human.

See what these US robots are capable of doing:

WordPress Security Release 2.0.2

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

okay… WordPress brings out 2.0.2, that makes it the second major (as in their nature) releases within 40 days. That makes things a bit shaky… but on the other hand, it’s good that things are being tracked down and taken into account. Hopefully this one takes care of the problems (security holes and bugs) so that there aren’t any frequent releases.

2.0.2 Security Release — 23 hours ago

An important security issue has been brought to the attention of the WordPress team and we have worked diligently to bring you a new stable release that addresses it. Our latest version 2.0.2 contains several bugfixes and security fixes. The problems addressed are unannounced XSS issues privately discovered and reported to the WordPress team. Thanks to [...]

2.0.1 Release — 38 days ago

It’s been exactly one month since we released the well-received WordPress 2.0 release. In the past 4 weeks we’ve been listening closely to feedback, squashing bugs wherever we find them, and watching how 2.0 handled under different loads. We’ve rolled up all the most important fixes into a 2.0.1 release, which is now available for download. All [...]

CMS Ideas

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Working on a Content Management System for a client these days. It’s in its very initial stage.

Mission Statement

  • Bridge the conventional CMS workspace and user-end interface gap by closely integrating CMS functions with the user-end interface
  • Save user time and make the application faster by avoiding extra clicks and page loads
  • Empower user by providing as many choices with less and only necessary control
  • Keep the application simple and generic so it could be potentially converted into a product or used in any other project later on
  • Obvious but still: Make the application user-friendly

Goals & Objectives

The following goals and objectives will be achieved during the interaction design:

  • Rich content formatting flexibility
  • Content layout flexibility (e.g. paragraphs, lists, tables)
  • Tighter control over content margins, spacing and wraps
  • Facility to manage multiple types of inline and linked content (e.g. text, flash, audio, video and downloadable files)
  • Multiple content templates
  • Drag and drop facility
  • Contextual and global navigation
  • Preview facility
  • Log and undo/rollback facility
  • Approval cycle workflow with facility to manage user rolls and policies
  • Flexible site structure management (i.e. management of navigation, pages & sections)
